Our First Retirement Trip

September 5-10, 2008
For our Anniversary and to celebrate our retirement, Lisa and Scott took us to Seattle with them to see the Huskies play. We stayed at the Sheraton near Pike Place Market, so of course we had to walk down and see them throw fish ... and eat some great salmon jerky. Afterwards we had a delicious dinner at the Dahlia Lounge.

Saturday, the 6th was game day and we headed for Husky Stadium. We got a reasonable parking place then headed for our seats~right on the 50 yard line! It was a really exciting game, the score went back and forth, staying really close. But in the end the Huskies lost by one point in the final minutes of the game. It took us hours to get back to the hotel ... obviously we didn't know the best way through the after game traffic. We had a scrumptious dinner at the Metropolitan Grill~they are famous for their steak and a wonderful wine list~well deserved! The Lobster Bisque and the Calamari were are also big hits.

On Sunday, we met Amy and Steve on Lake Washington and took a tour around the Lake on their boat. It was another gorgeous day and it was fun to see the area from the water rather than the freeway. We saw some really beautiful homes on the shore. We had eaten lots of goodies on the boat so we had just a light snack for dinner before turning in.

In the morning we took Lisa and Scott to SeaTac as they headed home. We took advantage of being retired and were staying a couple more days with Amy and Steve. We had planned a dinner at their house in Bellevue with my cousins Jean & Charlie, so stopped on the way over and bought supplies~i.e., food. We grilled lamb chops with pasta and a feta salad ... and of course some nice wine. It was wonderful to see Jean & Charlie, we have to keep in better touch!

Today (Tues, Sept 9) we drove down to Auburn to visit with our old friend Richard. We have known him since before we were married, when we had our boarding house in Bellingham. We had brought our GPS with us and it directed us right to his house. It's a neat little place and after he bought it, he found out the property had been owned by his family in the late 1800's. Wow, talk about cosmic fate! We made a fairly quiet evening of it as we had really been enjoying a lot of good food and wine.

After seeing Amy & Steve off to work, we headed toward the airport and home. It was another beautiful day! We stopped at the Boeing Museum of Flight and spent several hours looking at all kind of planes and learning about the history of Boeing and airlines in the Pacific Northwest. We had lunch at Antony's at the Airport before a quiet flight home. Lisa picked us up and brought us to our car that we left at their house for the trip.

It was a great send off to retirement!
